Streets of Saigon

The first thing you'll need watch out for in Ho Chi Minh City is the endless number of motorbikes.



Crossing the streets is the scariest thing since the drivers won't normally slow down to let you pass. Most of the times, it's the car that gives way to swerving motorbikes!

When in Ho Chi Minh, the motorbike is the king of the road.



When plying the streets, watch out for the occasional street vendor. They carry around the best snacks!

Bac Ho (Ho Chi Minh)

Bac Ho or Ho Chi Minh was a Vietnamese Communist revolutionary who became prime minister and president of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

Saigon was later named Ho Chi Minh City in 1976 in recognition of Vietnam's former president.

We went for a short visit to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh City is also known as Saigon.

Saigon is the largest city in Vietnam and was the capital during the French colonization.

We were there over the weekend only and too bad, it rained!!! So were not able to explore the city that much.

Here are some of the prominent buildings you'll see in Ho Chi Minh City.

You'll notice that some of the buildings in Ho Chi Minh City show influence of the colonization.


Opera House, built in 1897 by French architect Ferret Eugene, is an 800 seat building used as the home of the Lower House assembly of South Vietnam after 1956. It was not until 1975 that it was again used as a theatre, and restored in 1995.(wikipedia)


Saigon Notre-Dame Basilica (Notre Dame Catherdal) is a cathedral located in the downtown of Saigon, Vietnam. Established by French colonists, the cathedral was constructed between 1863 and 1880. It has two bell towers, reaching a height of 58 meters (190 feet)(wikipedia).
